A Bridge That Stands Out

Exciting progress is happening in the Town of Gilbert. On the south side of the community, crews are hard at work transforming a vital new east-west connection between Greenfield Road and Higley Road.

Behind the scenes, WOODPATEL’s Construction Management team, is guiding the project with careful coordination and attention to detail. The goal is to create a safer, stronger, and more connected roadway network that will serve Gilbert for decades to come. Key features include:

  • Two precast concrete girder bridges
  • One cast-in-place box girder bridge
  • Steel arch pedestrian walkways
  • Four-span East Maricopa Floodway Bridge with 85-foot drilled shaft foundations

Among the project’s standout features is the East Maricopa Floodway Bridge, a four-span concrete girder bridge supported by drilled shaft foundations that reach as deep as 85 feet into the ground.

To the casual observer, setting girders might look like a simple lifting operation. In reality, each placement is a complex choreography of cranes, crews, and calculations. The girders must align perfectly, measured with accuracy down to the inch, to create the solid framework that will one day carry everyday traffic. This type of precision requires teamwork, planning, and trust between everyone on site. It’s the kind of collaboration that defines the relationship between WOODPATEL, Sundt Construction, and the Town of Gilbert.

Connecting More Than Just Roads

The new Ocotillo Road stretch crosses several important features of the landscape, including the RWCD Canal, the East Maricopa Floodway, the Queen Creek Wash, and the site of the future expanded Gilbert Regional Park.

Each crossing brings its own challenges. Building over waterways, washes, and park areas requires a blend of precise engineering and respect for the environment. WOODPATEL’s team works to balance these factors while keeping the project on track, ensuring every bridge, walkway, and roadway section meets the community’s high standards for quality and safety.

A Shared Mission

Partnership is at the heart of this project’s success. The Town of Gilbert’s leadership, vision, and commitment to quality have made this progress possible. WOODPATEL’s core purpose is to Create, Connect, and Protect, which is reflected in every milestone of the Ocotillo Road project. This isn’t just about constructing bridges and pavement. It’s about building the connections that bring a community closer together.
