Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary based on experience level and may include:

• Assemble construction plans and assist the design team with submittals to reviewing agencies
• Prepare electronic drawings using company CAD standards from marked-up plans and/or verbal instruction
• Work with Project Managers and Engineers to design sites and subdivisions including roadways, utilities, grading, and drainage
• Create and maintain base files, alignments, profiles, corridors, surfaces, and earthwork models using Civil 3D
• Modify construction documents to reflect agency review comments
• Produce quantities and assist with cost estimates as needed
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other CAD team members
• Organize and schedule work to meet project budgets and deadlines
• Plot and publish plans and exhibits as required
• May provide guidance and/or review work of lower-level CAD staff

Requirements

•   CAD Technicians:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Designers:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in Civil 3D

• Observe civil construction activities in-progress and determine compliance with project plans, details and specifications; recommend acceptance or rejection.

WOODPATEL is seeking a talented and team-oriented Senior Civil Project Engineer to become part of our growing company in Phoenix, Arizona. This individual will be working independently on large projects and/or assisting other civil engineers as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 

The role’s responsibilities include engineering planning and design for a wide variety of water and wastewater projects including master planning, concept development and refinement, preliminary and final design, construction document preparation, cost estimating and construction observation. These engineering projects include but are not limited to water and wastewater system master planning, infrastructure analysis, design of water distribution, pumping systems, design of wastewater collection, lift station, well equipping, and site design. All assignments involve client coordination, obtaining regulatory agency approvals and public outreach. 

The ideal Senior Civil Project Engineer will participate in the technical design necessary for overall project completion and assure a high level of quality in design and client service with a heavy emphasis placed on providing value to our clients. 

This position requires working knowledge of design for projects. Duties will include:

• Review assigned projects during pursuit efforts and after award to assist with defining scope, developing schedules, determining work programs, and needed sub-consultants.  
• Leads a design team in performing project tasks.  
• Work and communicate effectively and regularly with private or municipal clients as well as state and federal agencies.
• Participate in effective presentations to councils, the public and selection committees.
• Ensures the quality, accuracy, and completeness of the engineering design, and improvement plan quality; compliance with established standards, procedures, codes and ordinances; adherence to design and project schedules; and provides adequate training, technical and administrative guidance, and instruction to personnel within the engineering team(s).

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering, AZ Professional Engineer’s license or ability to quickly obtain AZ professional engineer registration.

Qualifications:

• Arizona Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.

• Demonstrated experience with the design and permitting of municipal infrastructure projects including water, sewer, stormwater, and roadway improvements.
