Sandra Day O’Connor Federal Courthouse
WOODPATEL served as the Civil Engineer for this $95 million U.S. Courthouse in downtown Phoenix. The project covers two city blocks, has 550,000 square feet, and includes below-ground parking. Within the courthouse, a public atrium features a dramatic six-story glass curtainwall on the north face. The WOODPATEL scope of work included assessing the public infrastructure’s ability to serve the project, abandoning public utilities, and designing new infrastructure. In addition, integration of the protective security barriers and limited vehicle access measures unique to a Federal Courthouse was a vital goal requiring a different approach to civil engineering.
