Copper Sky Regional Park
The Recreation Complex is the sporting, fitness, recreation, and leisure destination comprised of the Copper Sky multigenerational center and the regional park. This expansive recreational development offers state-of-the-art equipment, grand green spaces and fantastic programs designed to enhance Maricopa residents’ quality of life. The regional park site is 122 acres of a 140-acre site adjacent to SR 347 (John Wayne Parkway). Located in the Vekol Wash, WOODPATEL completed the site civil design, which included an engineering site plan, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) submittal to update the floodplain insurance study, grading and drainage, offsite roadway improvements, and utility coordination including bringing water, sewer, and electrical services to the park. The design incorporated such components as sidewalks, multiuse pathways, specific design criteria for the roads to control vehicular speeds, wayfinding signs and comprehensive sign package. The most important design component of the park was designed to act as a regional detention basin in order to remove approximately 1,000 homes from a floodplain. WOODPATEL updated the contributing watershed and created an appeal to FEMA on behalf of the City of Maricopa.
