Higher Education

Located at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus, McCord Hall is home to several master programs in the WP Carey School of Business.  The new building and pedestrian mall wraps around the existing Business Administration buildings near the corner of Lemon Street and Palm Walk. A new plaza containing water features and seating areas provides social gathering space for students and faculty.

Wood/Patel was the civil engineer for the new 128,000 square-foot facility that contains classroom and office space, student and career services, and social spaces. New building connections to existing buildings present unique utility and hardscape design challenges. Other aspects of the civil design included rerouting sidewalks, the service drive and existing utility mainlines and services. A large underground retention system was designed to store drainage runoff from a sizable area of the adjacent campus. The estimated construction cost for this project was $38,000,000. A LEED gold status or higher will be pursued. Wood/Patel also provided topographic survey, utility location coordination, preliminary engineering, campus area drainage study with underground retention design, final grading, water, sewer improvements, LEED Certification support services, and post design support.
