Town of Queen Creek

Wood/Patel was selected by the Town of Queen Creek to study alternate routes for a planned bypass route of its downtown area. Currently, Rittenhouse Road runs parallel with and next to the Union Pacific Railroad and Ellsworth Road crosses both using an at-grade intersection. A significant amount of through traffic uses Ellworth Road and it has been designated as a Road of Regional Significance by the Maricopa Association of Governments. The at-grade railroad crossing is causing significant traffic delays and the Town is concerned with the increased delays that would be caused by higher traffic volumes when a commercial and shopping center is developed in this area.

This project considered alternative routes for a planned bypass route of the downtown area. One of these routes would join Ellsworth Road close to the present railroad crossing and the other crosses the railroad further west and joins Ellsworth Road to the north. The project also considered whether to cross the railroad with an underpass or an overpass. As part of the planning for connections among the arterial and local streets, this project also considered alternate alignments for Rittenhouse Road . Wood/Patel's plan avoided a routing for Rittenhouse Road that would have split a major commercial parcel in two and the plan provided connections between Rittenhouse Road and the new Loop Road that avoided using local streets for regional traffic movements.
