The City of Peoria selected Wood/Patel for the design of a regional drainage facility consisting of over 10 acres of retention basins and more than 2 miles of storm drain piping. Over the course of the project, Wood/Patel made remarkable improvements over the previously designed concept. Our modified design created an opportunity to reduce the improvement cost by several million dollars. We were successful in improving the basin’s level of service from a 10-year design to 100-year design. We were able to mitigate the frequent ponding and nuisance flows from the basin and were able to reduce frequent maintenance problem by several folds. In addition we increased the flood control service area of the drainage facility by about 0.5 mile.
Wood/Patel established horizontal and vertical control and performed a detailed topographic survey for design. Legal descriptions were prepared to assist the City in obtaining permanent and temporary construction easements. Wood/Patel provided construction staking services for the retention basins, storm drain pipe, drainage appurtenances, and paving improvements.
