Flood Control District of Maricopa County & City of Goodyear
The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (FCDMC), in partnership with the City of Goodyear , aims to build a flood control channel that functions as a recreational area and gives a sense of identity to the surrounding community. Wood/Patel is providing final design, construction plan preparation, special provisions, and an engineer's estimate for the extension of Bullard Wash from Lower Buckeye Road to I-10. The project includes channelizing the existing floodplain with landscaping, turf, irrigation, trails, and multi-use facilities along the channel alignment. Wood/Patel's scope of services includes public involvement, hydraulic design of a variable width channel, landscaping, recreational and multi-use facilities, bridge design, roadway design, utility relocations, and the preparation of a flood response program for this 3-mile project.
This project has been subdivided into five separate projects; three are various reaches of Bullard Wash from I-10 to Lower Buckeye Road , and two bridges and interim roadway improvements on Yuma Road and Van Buren Street . In addition, Wood/Patel is modifying the east and west approaches to the bridges on Yuma Road and Van Buren Street . The roadway design portion of the project, which will be reviewed by ADOT and the City of Goodyear (Dave Ramirez), is scheduled to be complete in 2005.
